Treasurer
Charlie Chambers
MIAT, RAnTech
Charlie Chambers began working with animals in 1970 as a Zoo Keeper in the Charles Claw Pavilion for Small Mammals at London Zoo.
Disillusioned with the environment the animals were kept in at the Zoo at the time, Charlie went for an interview at a pharmaceutical company recruiting for a junior animal technician. Charlie was overwhelmed by the access to veterinary surgeons and the passion for animal care exhibited by the technicians, and so began his career in animal technology.
After 25 years working in the pharmaceutical sector, Charlie had a change of direction and joined the world of academia. Charlie quickly settled into academia, finding the change of direction very rewarding and reinvigorating.
Charlie has always been a supporter of the IAT, starting the 1980s as the Congress Trade Exhibition Manager, and then in 1995 taking up the position of IAT Hon Treasurer, a position he served in on Council for three separate terms. In recognition of his support for the IAT, Charlie was awarded Life Membership.
Charlie is honoured to join the Board of Trustees of AS-ET as Treasurer, giving him the opportunity to continue to contribute, as he firmly believes education and continuing professional development is an essential requirement to improving animal welfare.
